New media is really Now media

Over the last several months, we’ve been engaged in quite a few speaking engagements, seminars and other events that I would characterize as part of an “education phase” in the Alaska marketplace. The phrase “New Media” often comes up in discussion as a way to describe some of what we do at Perfect Blend Media. It struck me that we are unintentionally removing ourselves from the “real” marketing discussion by using language that suggests what we are doing is “new”. New seems to be a four letter word for many agencies, marketers and public relations people.
New = High risk
It seems that New somehow equals experimental, unproven, risky or out of step with “real” marketing campaigns. Of course, I could not disagree more, but instead of attempting to educate everyone on the planet about the finer points of what New Media really represents – I’d like to propose a change.
New Media is Dead
From this day forward, I plan to refer to our strategies, methods and productions as Now Media. Sure it sounds cheeky and bit of a gimmicky play on words, but it serves to illustrate the point. Our tactics are tested, proven and effective and not some newfangled web thingy.
I really don’t have a deeper story to share, but I felt it was worth noting that we are not a new media company for Alaska. The capabilities we offer and productions we create are not something you should be considering, “thinking about” or might do in the future – you should be doing it now.
Our model of creating effective productions and campaigns
is happening right Now.
Your sponsors, members, customers, partners and donors
are looking for you Now.
Get engaged, start a conversation
and by all means – do it Now.
